SanlamAllianz General Insurance Rwanda is a non-life insurance company that offers innovative products for retail, SME, corporate pan-African, and multinational markets.

We are part of SanlamAllianz, a global brand that operates in 27 countries across the African continent. Our strategic intent is to create value for all our shareholders by growing our market share to become one of the top three general insurance companies in the Rwandan market. We are committed to achieving this through a shared-value approach with our staff, clients, communities, shareholders, business partners, economies and the markets in which we operate.

Our history

Prior to 2014, SanlamAllianz General Insurance Rwanda was known as SORAS Assurances Générales Ltd, a local general insurance leader. In 2014, the Sanlam Group acquired a 63% interest in SORAS, followed by the acquisition of the remaining 37% in 2018. After Sanlam acquired a 100% interest in Moroccan-based insurance group Saham Finances at the end of 2018, the Group realised the need for a merger between its two Rwandan subsidiaries, SORAS Assurances and Saham Assurances. The merger was concluded in March 2019 and the merged entity was rebranded to Sanlam General Insurance Rwanda in November 2019.

SanlamAllianz was established in September 2023 as a joint venture between Sanlam, the largest non-banking financial services company in Africa, and Allianz, one of the world’s leading insurers and asset managers with more than a century of history in Africa. As part of the SanlamAllianz group of companies, Sanlam General Insurance Rwanda rebranded to SanlamAllianz General Insurance Rwanda on 29 August 2024. In line with SanlamAllianz’s strategic objective, our ambition is to drive and maintain a top-three position in our local market and continue to provide the people of Rwanda with world-class products and services.
